Initial cycle of intermediate level in Hiking

Information

It is the basic course common to all intermediate levels (Climbing, Canyoning and Medium Mountain) and mandatory to begin training in any specialty.

The 2025/26 course includes a semester voucher for the Sputnik Alcobendas, Sputnik Las Rozas, Sputnik Legazpi and Sputnik Berango centers.

Material

  • Mountain boots
  • Thermal and waterproof clothing suitable for mountain activities in adverse conditions
  • Backpack with enough capacity to carry bivouac equipment
  • Hat, gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Trekking sticks
  • Canteen
  • Alpina Publishing House map, scale 1:25:000. Sierra de Guadarrama National Park – La Pedriza (Essential)
  • Repair materials
  • Field notebook and pen
  • Bivouac equipment (whatever each person considers necessary to shelter from the elements and be self-sufficient in the mountains: raffia, raincoat, plastic sheeting, tent pegs, cords, guy lines…)
  • Sleeping bag, sleeping mat and cooking utensils
  • Safety equipment: first aid kit, thermal blanket, whistle, knife, headlamp
  • Orientation equipment: compass plate with rotating bezel (Suunto A-30 model or similar is recommended), altimeter (a wrist altimeter is recommended as it is the most practical for professional use; mobile apps will not work), maps and map case (a medium/large map case, transparent on both sides, is recommended)
  • Classroom materials: pen, pencil, eraser, millimeter ruler, set square, and cartographic material to be determined

Requirements

  • Having passed the entrance exam for the courses no more than 18 months before the start of the courses.
  • To have completed at least the following academic courses:
    2nd year of BUP
    4th year of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education)
  • Any other course equivalent to the above.
  • Having passed the maturity test (in case of not having the minimum academic qualifications)

Recommended experience (or similar) for completing the training

Having completed more than 10 day hikes outside of the winter season, lasting at least 6-8 hours.

Circular route to La Pedriza, ascent to El Yelmo, ascent to Siete Picos, Laguna de los Pájaros, ascent to Peñalara, ascent to Cueva Valiente.

Recommended level of sports activity. 

This is the level we will have during the multi-day sessions:

  • Ability to walk for 8 hours in the mountains with a 10 kg backpack.
  • Having spent at least 1-2 nights in the mountains, in a tent or bivouac.
  • Having practiced map reading and orientation during your hiking outings.
  • Have the minimum required course materials in good condition.

This price will only apply when the student takes the course in a single session and in accordance with the payment policy. If the student divides the course into more than one session, the "Block Enrollment" prices will apply.
